
Unconscious Bias HR and Strategic Leader Workshop
The purpose of this course is to give leaders and influencers who are responsible for their organizations’ work culture the tools and knowledge to be able to confidently start their organization on a path toward a more inclusive culture.
The workshop gives learners a quick primer on SkillPath’s research-based, positive psychology approach to unconscious bias. Participants will fully understand the legal implications related to unconscious bias and, more specifically, implicit bias. Lastly, learners will leave the workshop with a plan for how to create a more inclusive work environment.
Course Outcomes
- Distinguish between unconscious bias, implicit bias and explicit bias and the impact on HR operations
- Explain the relationship between implicit bias and HR employment law, including concepts such as hostile work environment, harassment, discrimination and disparate impact
- Describe how to manage implicit bias and integrate implicit bias concepts into typical work contexts (e.g. hiring and performance evaluation) to allow for an inclusive work culture
- Define the value of diverse and inclusive workplaces according to recent research
- Create a draft of an organizational vision for diversity and inclusion that takes into consideration organizational values
- Outline HR initiatives and change mechanisms for operational functions, business strategy, talent management and career development programs

Module 1: Implicit Bias and Employment Law
Learn about types of bias and how they relate to employment law.
- Distinguish between unconscious bias, implicit bias and explicit bias and understand their impact on HR operations
- Explain the relationship between implicit bias and HR employment law, including concepts such as hostile work environment, harassment, discrimination and disparate impact

Module 2: Foundations of Cultural Inclusion
Discover the benefits of inclusive work cultures and create a vision for inclusion in your organization.
- Describe how inclusion works as a catalyst for effective operations in diverse workplaces
- Define the value of diverse and inclusive workplaces according to recent research
- Create a draft of an organizational vision for diversity and inclusion that takes into consideration organizational values and addresses harassment, discrimination and implicit bias
Module 3: Creating an Inclusive Culture
Create the beginnings of an organizational change plan to create a more inclusive work environment.
- List methods for implementing organization-wide change related to implicit bias and inclusion
- Describe change mechanisms and initiatives to enact related to operational and strategic HR functions
- Describe change mechanisms and initiatives to enact related to talent and career development functions and programs
